We’re back from our official launch celebration at RootsTech in Salt Lake City and we’re still alive with the buzz and warm reception from both the industry and the many genealogists who were thrilled with our new product.
It was quite the busy week for us! You read all about our official launch on Tuesday and we hit the ground running in Salt Lake City on Wednesday.
Some of our team prepped our booth for the more-than-20,000 visitors expected throughout the exhibit hall and our co-founder, Harrison, spoke during the conference’s “Innovator Summit” on “Reimagining the family tree.”
On Thursday, the conference officially kicked off to the masses. We got busy giving product demos and encouraging attendees to share their favorite family memory in our #memorytree contest for a chance to win some cash. (More on those winners later this week!)
On Thursday we also gave a demo of the product in the exhibit hall Demo theatre. Family.me product lead, Art, walked us through his own tree and how the tool helps families connect and even reconnect!
Friday was all about the booth and getting conference attendees to be one of the first 10,000 users, granting them access to Family.me FREE for LIFE!
Saturday was the final day and “Family Discovery Day.” Along with all of the industry professionals and genealogists we’d hosted all week, lots of families with kids flooded the booth this day. We gave away t-shirts through a variety of challenges including:

On this last day, our Founder Harrison, gave another presentation on getting your family members to share in documenting your family story and the responsibility the genealogy industry has to broaden the appeal for genealogy.

PRIVATE SOCIAL NETWORK LAUNCHES HELPING FAMILIES ‘REMEMBER TOGETHER’
Family.me brings loved ones together through interactive family trees, collaborative memory sharing and historical records.
Pasadena, Calif. (February 10, 2015) – Family.me, a private social network bringing families together to discover, share and preserve memories, launched today. The site combines the real-time and collaborative sharing capabilities of social networks with the latest tools in family tree-building and record search to help families sustain their legacies. Research shows families that understand their history are happier, have stronger relationships and more grounded children. Family.me empowers users to discover their legacies and share past and present memories through building a family tree, searching historical records and adding present memories. The new site celebrates its public debut at the largest family history and technology conference, RootsTech, in Salt Lake City from February 12 -14.
Many Americans have lost sight of their heritage. One-third of Americans cannot name any of their great-grandparents and 22 percent of Americans don’t know what either of their grandfathers did for a living. Despite this lack of knowledge and decline in oral storytelling, many Americans express interest in knowing more about their families. Family.me revives family storytelling through a safe, intuitive social network.

The free website includes the following key features:
- Tree Builder – Easily add relatives’ names and relationships to the virtual family tree and map out family history.
- Invite Family Members – Invite relatives through either the social network importer or an email invitation and work together to research the past and document memories.
- Memory Sharing – Share photos and more with your family members. Upload your favorite childhood photos or document memories and share them as they happen with the mobile app.
- Record Search – Search millions of birth, death, war and marriage files to learn about ancestors. Records include more than 70 years of US Census and social network data.
- Mobile-first Design – Family.me’s mobile-first design brings genealogy and family-focused technologies together in ways that are current for today’s families, whether they are always on-the-go or spread throughout the country.
Family.me is working with the non-profit family history organization, FamilySearch, to make more than one billion of FamilySearch’s historical records available to Family.me users, while also making Family.me’s easy and collaborative tools available to FamilySearch members.
